Blooming Beauty – how to Make your Roses Shine Longer

A beautiful bouquet of roses always delights the beholder. It is all the more beautiful when you can extend the life of the roses to 7 to 10 days. You can find out which tips and tricks contribute to the durability of the classic floral splendor in this article.

In order to enjoy your roses for as long as possible, the roses should receive the right care on the way to their new home. Wrapped in a wet cloth, the roses are supplied with sufficient moisture during transport.

How to cut your roses correctly:

Before you put the roses in the vase, remove as many leaves and thorns from the bottom as possible, so that only the top 2–3 shoots remain. Then cut the stems at an angle of about two to three centimeters with a very sharp knife so that the flowers are adequately supplied with water and nutrients. It is essential to renew the cut regularly and, on this occasion, to remove leaves that protrude into the water, as they lead to rapid rotting and wilting of the rose.

Which vase is the right one for my roses?

When choosing the vase, make sure that it is not too small and that at least 2⁄3 of the stems are in the vase. Roses need plenty of water. So make sure that the chosen vessel has plenty of room for water and, more importantly, is really clean. So that dirt particles and bacteria cannot deposit in the flower water and clog the cut.

Do not place the roses in direct sunlight, in a place that is too warm or near fruit.

It is not recommended to add sugar to the water. Although an old, sworn-in household remedy of many grandmothers, it turned out to be wrong, as it forms germs in the water that make the rose heads hang all the faster. If, on the other hand, you use daily changing soft, lukewarm water or, even better, clean rainwater, this will strengthen your roses. To prolong the shelf life, add one teaspoon of Javel water per liter of water.

A little emergency trick: If the roses should ever hang their heads, cut the stems again and place the roses in a hot, non-boiling water bath for about two hours directly under the rose heads. This will press any air bubbles that clog the water channels of the roses out of the style and improve water absorption again.
