Rose water is a versatile and natural beauty elixir that is perfect for skin care, aromatherapy or as a fine everyday fragrance.
It becomes particularly exquisite if you use our Ecuadorian roses, which are grown at around 3,000 m above sea level. The roses from Rosenbörse are characterised by their strong colours and their extraordinary fragrance – ideal for high-quality DIY rose water. In this article, you will learn how to make your own rose water with just a few ingredients and a little patience:
What you need for the production:
- 6–8 fresh rose petals
- 500 ml distilled water (available in drugstores)
- A large saucepan with a lid
- A sieve or cloth for filtering
- A clean glass or small bottle for storage
Step-by-step instructions:
-
Preparation of the rose petals
Carefully pluck the rose petals and rinse them with cold water to remove dust or dirt. Make sure not to use any damaged or brown leaves, as they could affect the quality of the rose water. -
Cooking the petals
Put the rose petals in a saucepan and cover them with the distilled water. Make sure that the leaves are well covered, but not floating in the water. Put the lid on and heat the water over a medium heat. -
Let it simmer
As soon as the water is hot, reduce the heat and let the rose petals steep for about 15–20 minutes. You will see how the water slowly takes on the colour of the roses and a delicate fragrance develops. -
Filtering and bottling
Now remove the pot from the heat and let the liquid cool down. Then pour the water through a sieve or a clean cloth to remove the flower residue. Pour the finished rose water into a clean glass or bottle. -
Storage
Store your rose water in the refrigerator. This will keep it fresh for up to two weeks.

You can use the homemade rose water in various ways:
- Skin care: As a soothing toner after facial cleansing or for moisturising masks.
- Hair perfume: Simply spray into the hair for shiny, healthy hair.
- Aromatherapy: A few drops on your pillow or in the diffuser will help you relax.
